“Following the September 11th attacks of 2001, domestic and international mass surveillance capabilities escalated intensely. USA PATRIOT Act and FISA Amendment Act’s PRISM surveillance program was introduced which allowed metadata collection of nearly every citizen.
Proponents claim that this practice is essential to track suspected terrorists. Opponents believe this form of data collection is a breach of privacy and consider it unconstitutional as it is done without a warrant.
