Should drug traffickers receive the death penalty?

“Federal law authorizes prosecutors to attempt the death penalty only for distinct crimes — usually involving murder. A drug dealer can be sentenced to death for operating criminal enterprises that either involve large quantities of drugs or murdering someone while committing a drug crime.
The United States is in the middle of a drug epidemic. In March 2018, President Trump urged the Justice Department to seek more death-penalty cases against drug traffickers. Trump announced the proposal to combat the opioid epidemic which is claiming the lives of citizens across the country.
Throughout the world, there are around 32 countries who impose a death penalty for organized drug crimes. Those in favor consider it as a welcome move and believe this will bring down drug smuggling and related crimes exponentially. Opponents view this as inhumane, draconian and against western philosophy.
