If the U.S. government ever monitors or spies on American citizens, do you think its reasons are justified?

“The USA PATRIOT Act acronym for “”Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001″” was signed into law by United States President George W. Bush on October 26, 2001, after the tragic September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. It significantly expanded the search and surveillance powers of federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies. The USA PATRIOT Act made various revisions to existing statutes on the privacy of telephone and electronic communications, the control of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, money laundering, immigration, and other areas.
Proponents of the Patriot Act consider it an essential influence in fighting terrorism. Opponents find it highly intrusive and view it as an attack upon personal freedoms, rights, and liberties of American citizens.
