“Nuclear energy is generated by nuclear reactions and can be used efficiently to produce electricity. In the U.S. there are 98 operating nuclear power reactors in 30 states which fulfill 20% of the country’s energy requirements.
Proponents claim that nuclear energy is safe and emits fewer carbon emissions than fossil fuels. Opponents say that recent atomic disasters in Japan prove that nuclear power is far away from being safe for commercial purposes.
