In the mass protests that followed the killing of George Floyd, in May 2020, the angry chants of demonstrators reverberated the streets across the US demanding defunding and disbanding of the Police Department.

Amid a growing concern over systemic racism and police brutality, those in favour of budgetary cut backs and decrease in the number of officers in the police department argue that the reallocation of police funds can be put to better use elsewhere, such as healthcare, social welfare and job creation.

On the other hand, others pointing to the recent spike in gun violence in cities nationwide, urge for a powerful and well paid police department, to enforce and maintain proper law and order in the country.
