Controlled Substances Act prohibits the manufacture, importation, possession, use, and distribution of certain drugs.
Decriminalizing drug use would put a stop to arrests and criminal punishment for possessing a small amount of a drug for personal use.
Proponents believe criminalizing drug use hurts families and communities, compounds social and economic inequalities, and brings no practical change in society. They think decriminalization would make people come out of shadows and get help.
Those against claim this will increase drug use and violent crimes.
