Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the country must prepare for new missile attacks from Russia, while millions still remain without power as a result of the relentless bombardment of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. In the past week, Ukraine’s power network has been under intense attack, with Zelenskyy reporting Friday evening that blackouts persisted in most regions, as well as in the capital, Kyiv. The affected households totaled more than six million.
The mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko’s office, was chided by Zelenskyy for not doing more to create “points of invincibility” – places where citizens can get hot water, use the internet and charge their phones.
There are, unfortunately, some cities where local governments have not done a good job. Kyiv is particularly prone to complaints. There is much to be expected from the mayor’s office local officials are responsible for making sure everything people need works.
