Sandia Labs Honored For Hiring Veterans

During an award ceremony held by the Department of Labor, U.S. Secretary of Labor Martin J. Walsh recognized Sandia National Laboratories as one of 849 recipients of the 2021 HIRE Vets Medallion Award.

Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans Act Medallion Program recognizes employers hiring, promoting, and retaining veterans.

By receiving a platinum designation from Sandia, they honor their value for veterans in the workplace through a long-term career and growth plan that takes advantage of veterans' diverse skills attained through their military service.

According to HIRE Vets, Sandia provided veteran hiring and retention services and leadership programming for veterans, dedicated human resource efforts, compensation and tuition assistance programs.

Sandia hired 556 veterans in 2020 and kept them for at least a year. 10% of Sandia employees said they were vets in that same year.

"I'm proud of Sandia Labs' efforts to recruit veterans and help them continue their service to the nation," Director of Sandia Labs, James Peery, said. "We share the same dedication to national security and commitment to exceptional service."

The Department of Labor's Platinum Award recognizes the value of working with members of the  Armed Forces.

A business can earn the HIRE Vets Medallion Award if it demonstrates an unparalleled commitment to attracting, hiring and retaining veterans. The awards are divided between platinum and gold tiers depending on the employer's size: large, medium and trim.
