A Peep Into The Afghanistan Trauma: Was The US- Afghanistan War Traumatic For Military Members?

As the world witnessed the dramatic end of the US-Afghanistan war, it is crucial to reflect on the experiences of those who were on the frontlines – the military members who fought, suffered, and sacrificed in the longest war in American history. While the political and strategic implications of the war have been widely debated, the psychological and emotional toll on the service members and their families remains less explored.

Some military members described their trauma and said, “It’s not easy to transition back to normal life after experiencing such extreme situations,” he shared. “I still have nightmares and flashbacks and struggle with anxiety and depression.”

Sgt Vargas-Andrews also mentioned the withdrawal as a “catastrophe,” adding: “There was a lack of accountability and negligence.”

He still feels consuming pain and regret for those who he left behind and could not save.
