16 Dec Gov. Glenn Youngkin announces a plan to transform Virginia’s behavioral health system
According to Youngkin, the current behavioral health system cannot meet the needs of Virginians in crisis. The governor of Virginia announced a three-year plan to transform behavioral health in the Commonwealth. There will be a focus on addressing Virginia’s behavioral health challenges through a six-pillar plan called ‘Right Help, Right Now, which addresses crisis care, the law enforcement burden, substance abuse support, behavioral health workforce, and service delivery innovation.
Among Youngkin’s proposals is $20 million to fund 30 mobile crisis teams for Virginia’s 9-8-8 hotline. Virginians need assistance during times of need,” Littel said. “Mental health efforts in the Commonwealth typically last only one year and focus on a single issue. The plan covers all aspects of the system over a multi-year period, and Virginia is doing this for the first time.” Among Youngkin’s proposals is $20 million for 30 new mobile crisis teams to respond to Virginia’s 9-8-8 hotline.
