Look your best

Employers have a certain image of you in their heads. It’s mostly about the physical appearance and the way in which you carry yourself. No matter if you are appearing for a technical or an executive position, remember that you need to keep up with that military posture. You don’t need to carry the posture that you carry on the parade grounds, but remember that you should stand tall, shoulders back and your chest out in confidence. Make sure that the clothes you wear are appropriate for the position that you are interviewing for. Try to get a more civilian haircut, but don’t just go over the top with your hairs. Remember these small things while preparing yourself for an interview, as these small things do make a huge impact.

Know more about the company

When you get the name of the company with which you have scheduled an interview, the next thing you need to do is look out for the company. You need to know everything about the company or their board of directors, but just find 3-4 things about the company, with respect to what they do, when was the company established, founders, clients, etc. If at all they ask you in the interview, ‘Do you know anything about our company?’ You can give an affirmative reply and start talking about the things that you found while searching for the company.

Focus on the last part of your interview

Most of the veterans are not looking for a sales job, but you also need to remember the fact that we’re all salespeople on the day of our interview. You need to create an impression that you are the perfect candidate for the job. So, remember that you answer all the questions to your best capabilities, thank the interviewer for their time, and let them know that you really want that job. Many times, an employer is pleased with a veteran, but they are unsure whether the veteran was interested in them.

These are some of the tips that worked very well for a lot of vets, and they can work for you as well. Remember to look good, research about the company, close the interview well, and you can move forward to the next round of the interview, or might get the job on the spot as well.
