The plight of military veterans suffering from the effects of burn-pit exposure has been a long-standing issue in the United States. While fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, these soldiers were exposed to harmful gasses and chemicals; as a result, they have since had various respiratory issues.The new administration has taken a step forward with President Joe Biden signing a law to provide these veterans with much-needed support.

The Burn Pit Registry Enhancement Act, signed by President Biden on January 5th, 2022, will require the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to report on the number of Veterans who have registered with the Burn Pit Registry, as well as those who have received medical care for burn-pit exposure-related illnesses.

This law also aims to improve the registry by including additional information on the types of burn pits used and the duration of exposure, which will help the VA better understand and treat the effects of burn-pit exposure.
