The Domiciliary Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program has a mission to give at-risk veterans a chance by enabling them to take part in residential and rehabilitative therapeutic community activities. This is for purposes of enabling the veterans to achieve their optimum functionality levels and to return to independent living in their respective communities. The Domiciliary Care program is a long-term rehabilitation program which provides veterans a chance to live in the community while learning skills and avoiding a return to homelessness. Residents of the Domiciliary Care program take part in a wide range of rehabilitation services such as addiction counseling, spiritual, behavioral, physical, psychosocial, dietary, vocational and occupation therapy.

Mental health and medical needs may be treated as often as needed by other staff to supplement the Dom programming during the resident’s period of stay. Shelter in the form of housing is not provided by the Dom. Veterans who are part of the program must accept to be part of the treatment activities while living here.

The usual time frame of domiciliary stay lies between a single month and six months, although it usually varies from one veteran to another by each veteran’s needs. The program tracks which constitute the DRRTP are:

• • Homelessness Prevention: It is designed to help veterans restore their psychosocial stability while learning the skills required for preventing a return to homelessness. The track period lasts between 30 and 90 days and may be run in combination with one of the remaining two tracks on the basis of each veteran’s needs.
  • CWT or Compensated Work Therapy: This track was designed to assist veterans to restore their psychosocial stability, acquire skills required for preventing a return to homelessness and competing for employment. The track lasts for a period ranging between 30 and 120 days and may be run in combination with one of the remaining tracks depending on the needs of the veteran.

• Intensive Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation: the program track lasts for a period ranging between 30 and 60 days, and it is mainly focused on enabling veterans to recover from addiction. This track may be run in combination with the homeless track services or CWT depending on whether the veteran does not wish to return to work or desires to get back to work. It is also integrated with the alcohol and drug abuse treatment program.
