What if the traumatic injury occurred prior to the beginning of the program?

With the enactment of the original law of TSGLI, it was directed by the congress that TSGLI would become retroactive from 7th October, 2001 to 30th November, 2005, in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) or Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). However, with the effectiveness from 1st October, 2011, the Public Law number 111-275 removed the requirements of OIF/OEF for any injuries that incurred within the retroactive period. As a result, the coverage of TSGLI will be given retroactively for the members who suffered heavy losses resulting from any traumatic injuries that incurred between 7th October and 2001-30th November, 2005, regardless of the place of the occurrence of injury, and regardless of the fact that whether they had the coverage of SGLI or not.
