Should an in-state sales tax apply to online purchases of in-state buyers from out-of-state sellers?

“The Marketplace Fairness Act has proposed legislation, pending in the United States Congress, that would enable state governments to obtain sales taxes and use taxes from retailers with no physical presence in their state.
Those in favor including brick and mortar retailers claim that excusing online retailers from sales taxes penalizes traditional stores who are required to charge high prices to cover taxes. Opponents consider it unfair to online retailers and see this as a threat towards free internet.
What are your thoughts? Should an in-state sales tax apply to online purchases of in-state buyers from out-of-state sellers?
