VA aims to get new employees on the job to meet healthcare demands sooner

As the VA works to hire 50,000 new workers each year for veterans, Undersecretary of Health Shereef Elnahal announced Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022, that national events will take place in November to boost new hires into the workforce and fill vacant jobs faster. After five years of vacancy, Elnahal took over the VA’s top health executive position in July.

To meet healthcare demands and trends among veterans, Veterans Health Undersecretary Shereef Elnahal announced Wednesday that the agency would hold events in November to get new employees in place and fill vacant positions quickly. As part of the events, all VA human resources workers will meet with facility and network leaders in every regional system during the week of Nov. 14 to assist new employees in completing hiring tasks such as training and integrating into the VA, he said in a news briefing.
