Should employers be required to pay men and women the same salary for the same job?

“The gender pay gap is the ratio of female-to-male median or average yearly earnings among full-time, year-round workers. The average woman’s unadjusted annual salary has been cited as 78% to 82% of that of the average men.
Proponents believe that the gender pay gap proves discrimination against women at workplaces. Opponents argue that studies around pay gaps don’t consider women who choose jobs that are more family-friendly considering privileges rather than salaries and that women are more likely to take breaks in employment to care for children or parents.
What are your thoughts? Should employers be required to pay men and women the same salary for the same job?
