Should businesses be required to provide paid leave for full-time employees during the birth of a child or sick family member?

“Paid family leave leads to partially or fully compensated absence from work for family caregiving needs, such as childbirth or severe illness of a family member. Although the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 grants eligible workers with a federal entitlement to an uncompensated sabbatical for a limited set of family caregiving needs, no federal law dictates private-sector organizations to provide paid leave of any kind.
Those who support increased access to paid leave generally cite as their motivation the significant and growing difficulties some workers face when balancing work and family responsibilities and the financial challenges faced by many working families that puts unpaid leave out of reach.
Opponents argue that such an endeavor would cost billions and can easily be misused by non-dedicated workers.
