The disability compensation is one that is paid to a veteran because of injuries or disease sustained while on active duty, or were made worse due to military service. VA must have proof that the disability was a result of active duty. The disability will then be evaluated by VA in order to determine a disability rating percentage. Each service-related disability or disease will be evaluated by VA in 10% increments. In some cases, the maximum level of compensation is 100%; however, for most cases, the maximum level of compensation is less than 100%. VA will pay the amount of compensation provided by law once the percentage rating has been determined.
