Error message while accessing the VA eBenefits Portal

I am using Internet Explorer to access the eBenefits Portal and am receiving an error message that says “There is a problem with this website’s security certificate.” How do I resolve this? Your browser is looking for a DoD root certificate, which provides the identity of a web site or person. The DoD recommends that you install several certificates. The following are the steps to install the necessary certificates: Open your browser (Internet Explorer). Choose Download Class 3 Root CA Certificate, which will open a download window. Select open; it will open the Certificate Manager. On the left side of the Certificate Manager, click the plus sign, which will open the certificate list. Double click on the folder, which will open various certificates. Search for the certificate to install, (e.g. DoD Class 3 Root A). Then double click on the certificate. This will prompt the Certificate Window to open. Select Install certificate, which will open the Certificate Import Wizard. Select Next. Click on Place all certificates in the following store option, and then select browse. This will open the Select Certificate Store window. Choose Trusted Root Certification Authorities, then click on OK. Select Next. Select Finish (click Yes if prompted with a Security Warning), then select OK. To close the Certificate window, select OK. To download the following certificates, repeat steps 2 to 13: • Download Root CA 2 Certificate • Download External Certification Authority (ECA) Root CA Certificate • Download External Certification Authority (ECA) Root CA 2 Certificate
