WHAT IS THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR VA DISABILITY BENEFIT?

To stand eligible for VA disability compensation, you must be suffering from a physical/mental illness and meet the following requirements-

  • You have served on active duty, inactive duty training or active duty training, AND
  • The VA has assigned a disability rating for your ailment.

In addition to satisfying the above requirements, you must also fulfill either of the following-

  • You had an ailment/injury before joining the military and being on-duty made it worse, OR

WHAT AILMENTS ARE COVERED BY VA DISABILITY COMPENSATION?

You can qualify for VA disability benefits if you suffer from one or more of the following conditions-

  • Ulcers
  • Severe lung disease
  • Cancer caused due to harmful radiation or toxins
  • Loss of limbs
  • Loss of range of motion
  • Chronic back pain that resulted in a back disability
  • PTSD
  • Depression
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Anxiety

HOW DOES VA DISABILITY COMPENSATION WORKS?

After applying for VA disability benefits, the department will assign you a disability rating based on the severity of your illness and other factors.

This rating can range from 10% to 100%, with 100% being totally disabled. If you are entitled as 100% disabled, you might be able to reap additional VA disability benefits like TRICARE benefits.

WHAT DOCUMENTATION IS NEEDED TO APPLY FOR COMPENSATION? 

To apply for VA disability benefit like compensation, you must submit discharge paperwork, medical records, documents supporting your claim and VA Form 21-526.
