Can A Terminally Ill Policyholder Receive Accelerated Benefits?

Accelerated benefits are provided to the terminally ill policy holders through the SGLI and VGLI programs. If the policy holder has a medical prognosis of 9 months or less to live then they are considered to be categorized as terminally ill individuals. 50% of SGLI or VGLI coverage can be taken up in lump sum by these terminally ill policy holders. Accelerated benefits are offered by various commercial life insurance companies in their policies. These accelerated benefits are not payable to survivors. The policy holders are required to submit SGLV 8284, Service member/Veteran Accelerated Benefit Option Form.
