Can a terminally ill policy holder receive accelerated benefits?

A terminally ill patient is considered as one who has less than 9 months to live. SGLI and VGLI programs grant accelerated benefits to terminally ill policy holders up to 50% of the coverage in a lump sum. Policy holders should fill out and submit this form http://www.insurance.va.gov/sgliSite/forms/forms.htm. However, if an accelerated benefit is provided prior to death, it will not be payable to the survivors.
